Reboots of beloved Cartoon Network series “The Powerpuff Girls” and “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” are in development at Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.
Craig McCracken, who created both series, is attached to both projects and marks a homecoming for him to Hanna-Barbera where he started his career.
McCracken was behind the original 1998-2005 “Powerpuff Girls” series but had no involvement in Cartoon Network’s 2016-19 first reboot as he was at Disney at the time.
The new “Powerpuff Girls” will stick to its formula and focus on Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, three superheroes whose mission in life alternates between going to school, fighting crime, winning at hopscotch and saving the world before bedtime.
The CW briefly developed a live-action version which was never picked up past the pilot.
“Foster’s Home” on the other hand will be recast as a preschool series with a new cast of preschool-aged imaginary friends who are just as playful as Bloo, Eduardo and the like.
