In his earnings call this morning, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer and fellow executives have revealed that the six month delay of the studio’s upcoming reboot of the “Power Rangers” franchise – from July 22nd 2016 to January 13th 2017 – should not be seen as a lack of confidence in the product.
Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group Co-Chairman Rob Friedman says: “We’re very excited and with Dean’s [Israelite] vision; we felt very comfortable looking for opportunistic dating. We really believe that great movies deliver no matter what date they’re on.”
Feltheimer says he sees the film as the start of a “significant series of movies” and adds that: “We’re picking a date where we think we can win.”
This is part of a move of Lionsgate to up their production output with 2016 seeing the company targeting a release of around fourteen or fifteen films.
