Post-“Indy 5” Trailer Speculation Gets Wild

Disney

Following the release of the first trailer for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” yesterday, story details about the film remain under wraps which leads to some wild speculation based on the footage shown.

We do know the plot unfolds across two different time periods, with one in the early 1940s (with a digitally de-aged Harrison Ford, a train sequence, Nazi castle, etc.), and the other in the late 1960s.

However the differences has led to some wild conjecture, parts of the net citing script leaks or test screenings suggesting a story involving time travel with Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character visiting different points in Indy’s life and saving him according to comments on Gizmodo.

Several online comments cite the ‘giant boulder’ scene as proof of the film boasting time travel, even though in this case it’s not a boulder but a globe of Atlas in a very different style temple.

Others are speculating about the shot involving a German bomber cockpit flying towards some atmospheric phenomenon. Director James Mangold shot down a recent plot leak that mentions time travel, calling it “not true” and confirming no test screenings have happened yet.

Much of the conversation has been in praise of the quality of the film’s digital de-aging effects. The new film is set to hit theaters on June 30th 2023. Check out a 4K version of the teaser below – a clip that fixes the compression issue in the ticker tape scenes from the official HD clip from Lucasfilm yesterday.
