“Poker Face” Renewed For Season 2

Peacock

Peacock has officially renewed its Rian Johnson-created and Natasha Lyonne-led mystery drama series “Poker Face” for a second season even as the first season is still in the midst of airing its initial run.

Lyonne stars as Charlie Cale, a woman who has an innate ability to detect lies and she encounters strange crimes and mysterious deaths that she can’t help but try to solve whilst also on the run from a casino boss in pursuit of her.

The series evokes 1970s detective procedurals and adopts the ‘howcatchem’ formula rather than a whodunnit approach as the murder is shown in detail at the start and the show is watching Charlie work out how it was done.

Johnson has assembled an impressive ensemble of guest stars including Ron Perlman, Cliff LeGrand, Adrien Brody, Benjamin Bratt, Chloë Sevigny, Jameela Jamil and Joseph-Gordon Levitt. The show has scored much critical acclaim, sitting alongside HBO’s “The Last of Us” with near universally positive reviews.

The series premiered four episodes of its ten-episode first season on January 26th with subsequent episodes rolled out weekly – the seventh of which airs this week. The show will wrap its current season on March 9th.

NBCUniversal TV and streaming chief Susan Rovner says in a statement: “Poker Face is one of those rare, undeniable shows that we all fell in love with from the start, but the critical acclaim and viewer response has been beyond our wildest dreams…. We can’t wait to hit the road for another season as we continue to build momentum across Peacock’s originals slate.”
