The upcoming untitled comedy film from Please Don’t Destroy, the comedy trio who succeeded The Lonely Island as producers of Saturday Night Live’s digital shorts, has been pulled from a planned August 18th theatrical release by Universal Pictures.
Instead, the feature will now go directly to Peacock on November 17th. In its place, the R-rated dog comedy “Strays” has been pushed back from June 9th to that vacated August 18th release date in cinemas.
Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy pen and star in the film in their feature debut. The story centers on three childhood friends who live and work together and question where their lives are headed – if anywhere at all.
Ill-equipped and out of their element, they set off to find a lost treasure rumored to be buried in their local mountains. Finding it may turn out to be the easiest part.
Paul Briganti directs, and Judd Apatow produces the film, which stars Conan O’Brien, Bowen Yang, Meg Stalter, X Mayo, Nichole Sakura, Cedric Yarbrough, and Sunita Mani.
The film was shot last Summer during the hiatus of SNL. The reasoning for the move to Peacock isn’t clear. Jimmy Miller also produce the R-rated feature.
