Actress Jada Pinkett Smith has criticized the dramatization of her friendship with late rapper Tupac Shakur in the biopic “All Eyez on Me” which has just opened.
Pinkett Smith used a series of tweets to shoot down certain moments of the biopic, which chronicles the life, death, and legacy of the legendary rapper. It also depicts the tumultuous relationship between the lifelong friends, including events in which Pinkett Smith says never occurred.
Pinkett Smith did praise Kat Graham and Demetrius Shipp Jr., the actors who portrayed her and Shakur, respectively, in the film. However she explained some of the embellished scenes as well:
Forgive me… my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in All Eyez On Me to stand as truth.

Pac never read me that poem. I didn't know that poem existed until it was printed in his book.

The reimagining of my relationship to Pac has been deeply hurtful.

Happy birthday Pac, you are cradled in my heart for eternity.
I love you.— Jada Pinkett Smith (@jadapsmith) June 16, 2017
The comments come as reviews for the $40 million-budgeted film trashed it, the movie scoring just a 40/100 on Metacritic. The film is currently on track for an opening weekend in the $30 million range.
