Photos: Weaver Swims With Balls For “Avatar 2”

Production is still continuing on the “Avatar” sequels in New Zealand and yet another two photos have been released from the film’s set – this time focusing on the one and only Sigourney Weaver.

Weaver starred as Dr. Grace Augustine in the 2009 film, but her character died and was absorbed into the planet’s ecosystem. Weaver returns here in a new role, Cameron saying: “she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films.”

The new character will feature in many underwater scenes and from the looks of it will be riding what will potentilaly become some sort of undersea creature. The other shot shows the floating ping pong style balls on the surface of the water of the 900,000 gallon tank built specifically for the sequels. The balls stop light spillage into the water which can interfere with the motion capture elements.

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, Jemaine Clement, and Oona Chaplin join the cast alongside other returnees Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, and Matt Gerald.

“Avatar 2” hits theaters December 2022.
