Universal Pictures kicks off its efforts to create a cinematic universe based around their classic monster movies with Alex Kurtzman’s “The Mummy” reboot. Today, the first photos are out over at Coming Soon showing off actors Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis (“Annabelle,” “The Tudors”) shooting scenes in London for the film.
Unlike the 1999 action adventure and its subsequent sequels, the new take will be set in contemporary times and be less fun overall. Cruise plays an ex-Navy SEAL while Wallis is an archaeologist in the film who must stop the titular creature (Sofia Boutella). Jake Johnson also stars in the film which boasts a script by Jon Spaihts and is currently slated for release next Summer.
