Amazon Studios has premiered the first photo from the set of “Grand Death Lotto,” a new action comedy hailing from filmmaker Paul Feig (“Spy,” “A Simple Favor”) which has begun shooting in California.
“Peacemaker” star John Cena is teaming with “Shang-Chi” duo Simu Liu and Awkwafina for the film in which the latter plays a woman in the near future who recently moved to Los Angeles.
She accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket in a lottery – a lottery that boasts a new rule that allows people to kill winners and legally claim their winnings.
She must join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel (Cena) to make it to sundown in order to claim her multi-billion dollar prize.
At the same time, she must deal with Noel’s overly eager protection rival Louis Lewis (Liu) who also wants to get her to sundown in order to claim his rich protection commission. Ayden Mayeri, Seann William Scott, Dolly de Leon and Donald Elise Watkins will co-star.
Cena shared the photo of himself Awkwafina and Feig posing after they completed their first week of filming. The project hasn’t set a release date as yet though an early 2024 release is the most likely scenario.
