Amazon MGM Studios has shared the official first photo from “I Play Rocky” which is currently in production.
The photo shows Anthony Ippolito who plays a 29-year-old Sylvester Stallone in the project which deals with the making of 1976’s “Rocky” which became the biggest box office hit of 1976, landing ten Oscar nominations and winning Best Picture before spawning a successful franchise.
“I Play Rocky” follows a struggling actor with a partially paralysed face and a speech impediment who writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead.
Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role. Peter Farrelly directs the film which also stars Stephan James as Carl Weathers, AnnaSophia Robb, Matt Dillon, P.J. Byrne, Tracy Letts, and Jay Duplass.
Farrelly is producing alongside Toby Emmerich and Christian Baha, while Peter Gamble wrote the screenplay.
A release date for “I Play Rocky” has not yet been announced.
