“Magic Mike” and “Beastly” star Alex Pettyfer is set to both direct and star in the based on a true story action-thriller “Phantom of Belgrade”.
Oliver Masucci (“Dark”) co-stars in the film which unfolds as former Yugoslav president Josip ‘Tito’ Broz was on an official visit to Cuba in 1979.
During that time, a citizen of Belgrade stole a white Porsche 911 Targa S and for ten straight evenings drove around the city forcing the police on a wild goose chase in the early hours.
Tens of thousands of people flocked to the streets every night to support the gesture which became seen as a political statement and the first oppositional act in the post-war Yugoslavia. David Matillo penned the script while James Ireland and Andre L III produce.
Casting is underway for the female lead and filming is scheduled for May 2021 in Serbia.
