Man of the moment Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us,” “The Mandalorian”) has joined the cast of Ethan Coen’s new comedy caper film, which has finally scored a title and release date.
“Drive-Away Dolls” will follow two women – Jamie (Margaret Qualley), an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian (Geraldine Viswanathan), who desperately needs to loosen up.
In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.
Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, Bill Camp and Matt Damon also co-star in the film. Coen and Tricia Cooke co-wrote the original script, and are producing alongside Robert Graf, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
The film is dubbed a new incarnation of the Russ Meyer-inspired, 1970s exploitation-esque lesbian road trip movie that Coen and Cooke penned years ago. It marks Ethan Coen’s first scripted feature solo following years of working together with his brother Joel Coen.
Focus Features and Working Title will release “Drive-Away Dolls” in cinemas on September 22nd 2023. Universal Pictures will handle overseas distribution.
