Craig Schulz, the son of famed “Peanuts” creator Charles M. Schulz, says he hopes a new film based on the iconic comic property will happen in the near future.
The syndicated daily comic strip ran from 1950 to 2000 and remains among the most popular and influential in the history of comic strips with nearly 18,000 strips published in all.
Characters like Charlie Brown and Snoopy, icons in their own right, have also been the stars of five features to date with the most recent being the 2015 CG-animated comedy “The Peanuts Movie” which starred “Stranger Things” alum Noah Schnapp as the voice of Charlie.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Schulz’s son spoke about the possibility of another “Peanuts” film, saying:
“I could tell you, but I’d have to kill you. [Laughs] Nothing is off the table, we’re always exploring different ideas and different things in this co-view series [‘The Snoopy Show’] that we’ve done, which touched upon the environment, the love for teachers, Mother’s Day, and how it interacts with enough people. All those subjects are just really fun, and as you know, the ‘Peanuts’ universe is sort of endless.
There are so many great characters to work with, there’s so many great themes to work with that we explore everything, and I don’t know that a movie is off the table. I would like to see one come back, but keep your fingers crossed, we will see.”
Whilst it has been a while since the most recent film, “Peanuts” hasn’t been away from screens thanks to shows and specials with the latest – “Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie” – having just premiered Friday on the Apple TV+ service.
