“Peaky Blinders” Is Getting A Sequel Series

BBC

Netflix and The BBC have handed out a two-season order for a sequel series to Steven Knight’s period crime drama “Peaky Blinders”.

The original series starred Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, a charismatic and cunning crime boss in Birmingham during the aftermath of World War I.

It ran for six seasons with events of the show running from 1919-1933, while a film continuation was shot late last year for Netflix but still doesn’t have a release date but is expected early next year.

Knight created the follow-up which unfolds in 1953 Britain. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel.

In the new era, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.

Murphy is on board as an executive producer for the series which will have six hour-long episodes each season. Much of the same producing team is back for this series which will film at Birmingham’s Digbeth Loc. Studios.

Other executive producers include Knight, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Mona Qureshi, and Toby Bentley.
