BBC and HBO Max period gangster drama “Peaky Blinders” is set to get a film which will serve as a final lap for the series.
Speaking at a BFI London Film Festival panel on writing across genres, show creator Steven Knight confirmed that the sixth and final season of the series is shot and almost completely edited.
That last batch of episodes aims to air in Spring 2022. He adds to Variety that the film will then go into production in 2023:
“I am going to write the feature which will be set in and shot in Birmingham. And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for ‘Peaky Blinders’ as we know it.”
While Knight wouldn’t use the term spin-off, he does say there could be “shows related” set in that universe in the future. If that happens, he says he would likely “pass on the baton” rather than showrun them.
