Peacock Says “We’re No Quibi” & Axes “Brave”

Peacock has opted not to renew David Wiener’s sci-fi drama series “Brave New World” for a second season with UCP planning to shop it around to other streamers or networks.

The official axing comes four months after the Alden Ehrenreich-led series debuted its full nine-episode first season adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s groundbreaking novel with the streamer’s launch in July. However poor reviews and little buzz about the project meant it never really took off.

The cancellation comes as NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell said earlier today that it hopes Peacock will attract 30-35 million monthly active accounts by 2024 and as reached more than 22 million sign-ups so far.

He goes on to say Peacock is the “opposite of Quibi,” Jefffrey Katzenberg’s doomed short-form mobile-first service, because it offers a broad base of familiar content. He also says the streamer is “way ahead” in terms of sign-ups, regular usage and engagement compared with internal forecasts.
