Peacock Plans “Little Mermaid” Sequel Series

NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service Peacock is reportedly developing “Washed Up,” a TV series that serves as a sequel to “The Little Mermaid”.

Specifically it’s a follow-up to author Hans Christian Andersen’s original tragic fairy tale of the same name, not Disney’s 1989 animated musical.

“Washed Up” is set fifteen years later after the mermaid gave up her tail to marry a prince at age 17. Now she’s in her early 30s and is miserable, unmotivated and in a loveless marriage.

When her father suddenly dies, she suspects foul play and embarks on an epic adventure to save not only her underwater kingdom but all of humankind

Writer-producer Gracie Glassmeyer and Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Synder Urman are spearheading the project along with the HBO Max dark comedy series “Here She Lies” starring Yael Grobglas about a pathological liar who falls for someone equally damaged. Both series will be written and executive produced by Glassmeyer.
