Peacock Orders “Friday the 13th” Prequel Series

Paramount

Peacock has handed out a straight-to-series order for the “Friday the 13th” expanded prequel series titled “Crystal Lake”.

Bryan Fuller (“Dead Like Me,” “American Gods”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer while Victor Miller, who penned the original film in the franchise, will also executive produce along with Marc Toberoff, Rob Barsamian, and A24.

The series does not have the rights to use any elements of the films established after the original “Friday the 13th,” such as the trademark hockey mask, but a prequel is able to be explored.

Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, says in a statement: “‘Friday the 13th’ is one of the most iconic horror franchises in movie history and we were dying to revisit this story with our upcoming drama series ‘Crystal Lake'”.
