“Peacemaker” S2 Final Eps Like ‘A New Season’

HBO Max

The second season of James Gunn’s “Peacemaker” has begun streaming on HBO Max, with critics given access to the first five episodes of the eight-episode season.

Reviews for those five episodes were strong, the new season holding at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and 78/100 on Metacritic – both notably up on the first season.

But that’s only part of the story, what about those three unseen episodes? Series creator James Gunn has indicated that the sixth and eighth episodes of the new season are his personal picks as the best of the new season.

Now actor Steve Agee, who plays John Economos in the series, has offered his thoughts on those last few episodes. Speaking with THR, he says there’s good reason those episodes were held back:

“There’s a reason for that. The last three episodes are almost like a whole new season. They are absolutely insane, and they really cross into that actual question even more so.”

The question he’s referring to there is one of “whether the grass is truly greener on the other side”, according to the interviewer. Agee also commented on how the premiere retcons the first season:

“I learned about it when I got the first script [for season two]… James kind of wrote himself into a corner with season one. At that point, there was no indication of him taking over [DC Studios]. So when he took over at DC and wanted to make a whole new universe and timeline, he had to fix it by tying Peacemaker season one to Superman. So I think that was the easiest way for him to do it.”

Gunn has also previously revealed that there will be a major cameo in one of these final episodes.
