Celebrated “The Master” and “Inherent Vice” filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson has been hard at work prepping his first feature directorial effort since 2017’s “Phantom Thread,” though specifics have so far remained under wraps.
Now THR reports that the still-untitled film is about to begin casting ahead of a shoot in California kicking off early next year. It’s also been indicated the film will take place in the 1970s and be set in the San Fernando Valley.
The action will follow a young high school student that also happens to be a successful child actor, but the overall narrative will be an ensemble with potentially intersecting storylines.
It’s not clear if this is the same project that Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio was linked to but passed on earlier this year with DiCaprio instead jumping onto Guillermo del Toro’s next feature.
No release date has been confirmed for the Anderson project though a late 2020 one could be possible.
