Patrick Wilson To Direct A Fifth “Insidious”

Actor Patrick Wilson will make his feature directorial debut on a fifth film in the “Insidious” horror franchise at Blumhouse Productions.

The first two films centered on a couple who (Wilson, Rose Byrne), after their son (Ty Simpkins) mysteriously enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for ghosts in an astral plane, are continuously haunted by demons of a hellish realm known as the Further.

The third and fourth were prequels which focused on Lin Shaye’s psychic, who helped the family in the first two films, deal with other cases.

This fifth outing will pick up with the original Lambert family a decade later as the now grown up son (Simpkins reprising his role) begins college. Wilson will both helm and return on screen.

Scott Teems wrote the script based on a story by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. Sony Pictures will release the new entry while Whannell, James Wan and Oren Peli will produce.
