Patrick Wilson Joins “The Last of Us” Season 3

Warner Bros. Pictures

“Aquaman,” “Insidious” and “The Conjuring” star Patrick Wilson has reportedly joined the cast of the third, and potentially final, season of HBO’s “The Last of Us”.

The Emmy-nominated actor wrapped Scorsese, Spielberg and Apple TV’s “Cape Fear” not that long ago and was reportedly taking his time picking a next project. Now he’s found it.

The Insneider broke the casting news, but says it’s not clear what role the actor has signed up for – be it an original one ala Catherine O’Hara’s Emmy nominated turn in the second season, or an existing character from the game.

Fan speculation has been that he’ll be playing Dr. Jerry Anderson, the father of Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby which is one of the few roles Wilson’s physicality fits that hasn’t been cast as yet.

The character, a surgeon for the Fireflies who was to operate on Ellie, only appears without a mask in a flashback level in the second game as he teaches a young Abby how to track wildlife. His death at the hands of Joel (Pedro Pascal) serves as the main motivator for Abby and the events that followed in the second game and second and third seasons.

Several key roles remain unannounced, most notably Lev and Yara. Filming is expected to get underway soon in Canada ahead of a planned 2027 release on HBO.
