Participant Media has scored the rights to the narrative film adaptation of 2016 Oscar-nominated documentary “Abacus: Small Enough to Jail”.
The original Steve James documentary centered on the Abacus Federal Savings Bank, a family-owned community bank in New York’s Chinatown which became the only financial institution to face criminal charges during the 2008 financial crisis.
The reason? They were deemed ‘small enough to jail’ as opposed to so many other major financial institutions which were dubbed ‘too big to fail’.
Justin Lin (“Star Trek Beyond,” “Fast Five”) is attached to direct from a script by Kenneth Lin (“Star Trek: Discovery,” “House of Cards”) and James Schamus (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”)
