In the wake of the Paramount+ and Showtime merging services news earlier this week, news quickly came about Showtime had begun pulling numerous underperforming shows from the streamer such as “Kidding, “Super Pumped” and “American Rust” along with cancelling “American Gigolo” and “Let the Right One In”.
Now, Paramount+ is following suit with Jordan Peele’s two-season “The Twilight Zone” being removed from the service along with all three seasons of “The Real World: Homecoming”.
Other shows to be pulled include the Peter Sarsgaard-led “Interrogation,” the Michael Chiklis-led “Coyote,” the Patrick Brammall and Tim Meadows-led “No Activity,” the Kate Beckinsale-led “Guilty Party” and the animated series “The Harper House”.
All this comes as Paramount CEO Bob Bakish announced plans to rename Showtime as ‘Paramount+ With Showtime’ and revealed that the Showtime streaming service will merge into Paramount+ on Monday. It’s expected the standalone Showtime app could be shut down as well.
One upside of the merging is that Paramount+ originals reportedly could join the Paramount+ with Showtime linear channel, meaning shows like the “Yellowstone” spinoffs including “1883” and “1923” could be played beyond streaming.
The trend of removing titles from services has become common in the past six months, though none has been as aggressive as HBO Max who in August last year alone pulled 26 series – including 20 originals – from their service.
