Paramount Pictures has picked up the film rights to the beloved children’s book series “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and is developing it as a live-action/CG hybrid feature (ala “The Smurfs,” “Garfield”).
Justin Malen, who penned the upcoming “Baywatch” film, will adapt the script from the 75-book strong series created by Norman Bridwell in 1963. The story follows the 25-foot-tall canine and his owner, the young Emily Elizabeth, and their misadventures together.
The books were previously adapted into a video series in the 1980s, two television series, and a 2004 animated film. David Bowers (“Astro Boy”) was attached to helm this film when it was previously setup at Universal Pictures.
