Just over one week after Skydance officially took over Paramount, the company is making deals left and right.
Paramount is reportedly in talks for a movie output deal with “Dune” and “Godzilla vs. Kong” producers Legendary Pictures, with discussions reportedly having begun as early as this past Spring.
Legendary previously had output deals at Warner Bros. Pictures, which ended in late 2022 and Sony Pictures, which ended late last year.
The latter deal has yielded little, with the biggest being the upcoming new take on the “Street Fighter” franchise.
Any new deal with Legendary excludes the existing franchises still parked at Warner Bros., such as the Godzilla-Kong movies, “Dune Messiah” or the “A Minecraft Movie” sequel.
One of Legendary’s biggest projects in the works is a big-budget adaptation of the Japanese anime and manga “Gundam” starring Sydney Sweeney and directed by Jim Mickle. That project goes into production next year.
The news follows on from the new Paramount spending $7.7 billion on a deal for UFC rights for the U.S. for seven years, and being in talks with “Stranger Things” creators the Duffers for a new overall deal that includes films.
