Page, Freeman Plan Muhammad Ali TV Series

Netflix, Lionsgate

“Bridgerton” breakout Rege-Jean Page, Oscar-winning “BlacKkKlansman” and “Da 5 Bloods” writer Kevin Willmott and the one and only Morgan Freeman are all teaming for an eight-part scripted event series about boxing icon Muhammad Ali at Peacock.

Titled “Excellence: 8 Fights,” all three will executive produce the project which will adapt Jonathan Eig’s definitive biography “Ali: A Life”. Lori McCreary and Emily Brown also executive produce for Revelations Entertainment, CBS Studios and UCP

Page will soon be seen in the upcoming “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” film adaptation. At present he’s only attached as a producer on the project, and not in an acting capacity so won’t be starring as Ali just yet.

The story will chronicle eight distinct moments in the life of Muhammad Ali with each episode framed by one famous fight from his life.

However, the official synopsis adds that each episode’s core “will be the internal fight – the drama outside the ring – where we will explore the struggle going on in the heart and mind of one of the most consequential and controversial figures of the 20th century.”

The project was previously developed for CBS All Access, which is now the Paramount+ service, back in 2018 and is a longtime passion project of Freeman’s Revelations label.
