“Paddington 3” Akin To “Triangle of Sadness”?

Filmmaker Paul King’s first two “Paddington” films have quickly become widely beloved affairs, the second in particular is hailed as a cinematic masterpiece in many corners.

Now the property is set to return with “Paddington in Peru”, this time award-winning commercials and music videos director Dougal Wilson is taking over as helmer though King remains onboard as a producer and has a story credit.

Speaking with Games Radar, King was asked about what to expect from the new film and surprisingly says it draws several parallels to last year’s Oscar Best Picture nominee – Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness,” a ruthless dark satire of the uber-rich.

The new film follows the marmalade-loving bear and the Brown family visiting Aunt Lucy back in Paddington’s home country of Peru. They soon face a mystery that will send them into the Peruvian jungle and mountains.

King dubs it a fish-out-of-water comedy and once in Peru he reportedly compares it to being “like the third act of Triangle of Sadness”. It’s not clear how that comparison comes up beyond basic survival and power dynamic elements coming into play.

Other aspects of that film, from the donkey slaying to the adultery, aren’t likely to show up here. “Paddington in Peru” started filming in July with plans for a release in Summer 2024.
