David Oyelowo is set to star in the dramedy series “Government Cheese” at MACRO and Apple, his second series in the works at Apple alongside the post-apocalyptic “Wool”.
The story follows Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo), a man recently released from prison who struggles to keep his criminal past at bay and win back his family, all while processing moments of divine intervention that seems to happen with increasing frequency.
The project is based on the short film of the same name by Paul Hunter, who co-created the series with Aeysha Carr (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”). Hunter, Carr, Oyelowo, Charles D. King, Marta Fernandez, Jelani Johnson and Ahmadou Seck all executive produce.
