Blizzard’s “Overwatch 2” was released on Steam yesterday afternoon and has been met with a tidal wave of negative reviews.
Around 30 hours since its launch, the game has managed to rack up nearly 51,000 negative reviews compared to just over 6,000 positive ones.
The user backlash is strong. On Metacritic it has managed over 3600 reviews and has landed a 1.4/10 user score which is a contrast to the critic’s reviews which give it a 79/100.
Either way, the title has improved on Blizzard’s relatively recent mobile game “Diablo Immortal,” which managed a 59/100 critics and 0.3/10 user score.
Criticisms have been levelled against the game’s free-to-play structure and removal of the main PvE ‘Hero’ missions – a key feature highlighted when Blizzard officially announced the game back in 2019.
In addition, it’s the first of several games Blizzard plans to release on Steam that still require a Battle.Net account in order to play them.
Despite the backlash, people do seem to be playing the game with SteamDB reporting it had achieved a 24-hour peak of 75,608 concurrent players on Steam.
