Over Half Of Netflix’s Users Watch Anime

Netflix unveiled footage and new titles as part of its Anime Expo in Los Angeles this weekend, in the process revealing some interesting data about viewership.

The streaming giant says over 50% of its members, 150 million households, watch anime on the platform. They say anime viewership on the service has tripled over the past five years.

To give you an idea of how fast it is growing, 33 anime titles appeared in Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Non-English) rankings last year – double the amount of just three years earlier.

The streamer adds that anime content was viewed over 1 billion times globally in 2024. In terms of the way its seen, most prefer dubbed with 80-90% of users opting for dubbing over subtitles.

That has partly led to Netflix expanding options for dubbing on its anime titles with up to 33 languages available.

Netflix’s big upcoming titles include the second season of “Sakamoto Days” launching next week, the stop-motion “My Melody & Kuromi” on July 24th, and the in the works “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners “.
