HBO Max has renewed its pirate comedy series “Our Flag Means Death” for a second season. The renewal comes almost three months after the show’s first season finished airing this past March.
Rhys Darby stars as Stede Bonnet, an English aristocrat who abandons his family in an attempt to find himself as a pirate, with his mild-mannered and gentlemanly demeanour proving to be a poor match to a life of crime.
Over the course of the first season, he teams up with Edward ‘Blackbeard’ Teach (Taika Waititi) and the pair unexpectedly fall in love – only for the pair to be separated and a heartbroken with Ed embracing his dark Blackbeard persona.
Reviews were generally positive by critics for the first few episodes, but as the series progressed it scored higher praise and a devoted fanbase for its LGBTQ representation.
Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Samson Kayo, Con O’Neill, Nathan Foad, Vico Ortiz, Kristian Nairn, Matthew Maher, Guz Khan, David Fane, Nat Faxon and Samba Schutte also star.
