“Mrs. Wilson” and “The White Queen” star Otto Farrant has been cast as Alex Rider, the teenage spy lead in the eight-part TV series based on Anthony Horowitz’s novels which Sony Pictures Television and Eleventh Hour Films are producing.
The story follows a reluctant teen superspy who goes on missions to save the world. The books have sold over 19 million copies and are particularly popular among young adult male readers, and was previously adapted onto film in 2006 with Alex Pettyfer in the role.
Guy Burt (“The Borgias,” “The Bletchley Circle”) is attached to pen the series which will begin with the second book “Point Blanc” as the basis for its story. The TV series will target an older audience than the novels, which targets teen boys, and will be presented as event drama for family audiences.
Burt, Horowitz, Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green will executive produce while Andreas Prochaska (“Das Boot”) is helming.
