Last night’s Oscar telecast scored the ceremony’s highest viewership numbers in years with an audience of 43 million in the United States alone.
It also scored a 12.9 rating amongst adults 18-49, which adds up to making this the most watched entertainment telecast since the finale of “Friends” back in May 2004.
A combination of a relatively open field for Best Picture, popular box-office favourites like “Gravity” and “Frozen” being in the mix, and the safe and inoffensive hosting hands of Ellen DeGeneres, all combined to deliver numbers 6% higher than last year’s heavily criticised Seth MacFarlane-hosted gig.
The ceremony was just as long though, clocking in at three hours and thirty-five minutes.
