The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a line-up of 153 members who are eligible candidates for seventeen open slots of three years each on the organisation’s board of governors.
The list include such names as Michael Mann, Ava DuVernay, Rita Wilson, Jason Blum, Janusz Kaminski, Joe Pantoliano, Richard Dreyfuss, Niki Caro, Stacy Keach, Jason Reitman, Kasi Lemmons, Peyton Reed, Carole Bayer Sager, Irwin Winkler and John Ridley. Others are seeking re-election for their particular branch including Whoopi Goldberg, Mandy Walker and Kimberly Peirce.
However one name inclusion is unexpected – Brett Ratner. Ratner made headlines when he resigned as producer of the 84th Academy Awards show after certain disparaging comments he made surfaced on tape in 2011, shortly after he was selected for the job. Ratner was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in 2017, with Warner Bros. Pictures subsequently severing all ties with him.
All Academy members who are members of one of the organization’s seventeen branches with representation on the board will be asked to rank their branch’s candidates on a preferential ballot next week.
