Oscar Isaac is reportedly in discussions to lead the Amazon series “Helltown,” playing famed “Slaughterhouse Five” and “Cat’s Cradle” author Kurt Vonnegut.
The hour-long, eight-episode crime thriller follows the life of Vonnegut in 1969, before he became a successful writer. At this time he was a struggling novelist and car salesman living life with his wife and five children on Cape Cod.
When two women disappear and are later discovered murdered underneath the sand dunes on the outskirts of Provincetown, Kurt becomes obsessed and embroiled in the chilling hunt for a serial killer. He soon forms a dangerous bond with the prime suspect.
The project is based on the book of the same name by Casey Sherman and hails from “Severance” co-executive producer Mohamad El Masri who will serve as showrunner and writer.
“All Quiet on the Western Front” director Ed Berger will helm the series and executive produce, Berger coming off the high of four Oscar wins last night including best international feature film. Berger previously worked on shows like “The Terror” and “Your Honor”.
Isaac, Sherman, Gena Konstantinakos, Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell will all executive produce the series. No word on a production timeline as yet.
