The upcoming IMAX release of James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” is expected to draw the crowds in, and so distributors are using the opportunity to show off some upcoming product.
Already we know Paramount will be putting a four-minute featurette about “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” in front of the film. Now, Universal is getting in on the action with their own IMAX-exclusive trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”.
Fandango reporter Erik Davis broke the news with a memo citing the release, which will reportedly be a genuine exclusive to IMAX and different to the next trailer for the film that will be shown online or at standard screenings.
The film marks the first IMAX film featuring scenes shot in black and white, with a special kind of film developed exclusively for the title. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema shot the film using a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “American Prometheus,” Cillian Murphy stars as the theoretical physicist whose work on the Manhattan Project led to the invention of the atomic bomb.
