Blockbusters ain’t getting any smaller it seems as two of this Summer’s blockbusters – Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” – are set to boast lengthy runtimes.
Nolan’s WW2 drama is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography “American Prometheus” and stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American physicist who was dubbed the ‘father of the atomic bomb’.
The $100 million budget project, filmed in a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography, will reportedly clock in at a runtime of three hours according to Puck News. That makes it Nolan’s longest film to date – beating “Interstellar” at 169 minutes.
Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Michael Angarano, Dane DeHaan, Jason Clarke, Jack Quaid, Josh Peck, Alex Wolff, Alden Ehrenreich, Matthew Modine and Gary Oldman co-star in the film which opens July 21st.
Meanwhile Atom Tickets is listing Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” already ahead of the film’s May 5th release.
That film’s runtime is said to clock in at 149 minutes – making it the longest film in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series to date – beating the first’s 122 minutes and the second’s 137 minutes.
In the new film, Peter Quill is still reeling from the loss of Gamora and must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Maria Bakalova join the regulars in the new entry which is expected to be the last of that Marvel franchise.
