With tickets now on sale for it, Universal Pictures has premiered a new featurette for Christopher Nolan’s big-budget biopic “Oppenheimer” with a closer look at the production’s IMAX filming, which encompasses the entire shoot.
Nolan’s story is based on Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin’s Pulitzer Prize-winning biography “American Prometheus” with both authors credited as writers along with Nolan himself.
Cillian Murphy plays J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American physicist who was dubbed the ‘father of the atomic bomb’ – an enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.
Oppenheimer is filmed in a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX black and white analogue photography.
The $100 million budgeted film, Nolan’s most cost-effective effort in some time, boasts a stacked cast including Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine ‘Kitty’; Matt Damon as Manhattan Project director General Leslie Groves Jr.; Robert Downey, Jr as U.S. Atomic Energy Commission founder Lewis Strauss; Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatlock; Benny Safdie as theoretical physicist Edward Teller; and Josh Hartnett as pioneering nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.
Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Michael Angarano, Dane DeHaan, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Jason Clarke, Jack Quaid, Josh Peck, Alex Wolff, Alden Ehrenreich, Matthew Modine and Gary Oldman co-star.
The film will be released exclusively in cinemas on July 21st with 70mm, 35mm and IMAX print engagements.
