“One Piece” Beats “Stranger Things” Record

Netflix

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the anime “One Piece” set sail on Friday, and already it has broken a record for the streamer.

According to OnePieceNetflixFan, the series has already concurrently reached the #1 position on Netflix’s Top 10 chart in 84 countries – more than any other show in Netflix history in its debut weekend.

That beats a previous record of 83 countries held by both “Wednesday” and the fourth season of “Stranger Things”.

Both of those were amongst the most watched Netflix series ever, and whilst no viewership numbers are yet out for “One Piece,” this suggests it will be in similar territory to those shows.

The series, made with heavy input from creator Eiichiro Oda, has drawn acclaim for breaking Hollywood’s ‘anime curse’ and delivering an adaptation that actually works.

The series follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who vows to become the king of the pirates and sets out in search of the legendary ‘One Piece’ – said to be the greatest treasure in the world.

All eight episodes of the first season of “One Piece” are now available worldwide on Netflix.
