“One Battle After Another” Going For Comedy Awards

Warner Bros. Pictures

Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” is reportedly being submitted for consideration in the Comedy categories at the Golden Globe Awards.

World of Reel broke the story, saying Warner Bros. Pictures believes the film, the current Oscar frontrunner, will be submitted for comedy honors.

That includes Leonardo DiCaprio for Lead Actor (Comedy or Musical), Chase Infiniti for Lead Actress (Comedy or Musical) and Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, and Benicio del Toro in supporting honors.

The move will no doubt raise eyebrows. Though it certainly is one of Anderson’s funniest films with quite a few laughs, calling it a comedy is considered a bit of a stretch. Then again, it fits that qualifier far more than some other films submitted to the Globes as comedies (most notably “The Martian”).

The film is likely to find itself going up against “Wicked For Good” and possibly “Marty Supreme” depending upon where it’s placed for the Comedy/Musical honors at the Globes.

The awards race is currently pretty thin on the ground with “Hamnet,” “Sinners,” “Jay Kelly,” “A House of Dynamite” and smaller foreign titles like “It Was Just an Accident” and “Sentimental Value” in the mix.
