Olyphant’s “Mandalorian” Role Revealed?

A new report up at Slashfilm indicates that “Justified” and “Deadwood” alum Timothy Olyphant’s role in the upcoming second season of the Disney+ “The Mandalorian” series will be that of Cobb Vanth.

Introduced in Chuck Wendig’s ‘in-canon’ “Aftermath” book series, Vanth is the self-appointed sheriff of the Tatooine-based settlement Freetown who wears a mysterious set of Mandalorian armor acquired from Jawas who scavenged the wreckage of Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge shortly after his death.

This suggests that Vanth is donning the infamous green armor formerly worn by bounty hunter Boba Fett following his death in a Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine’s Dune Sea in “Return of the Jedi”. The outlet says their sources have also confirmed Olyphant filmed scenes wearing Boba Fett’s armor.

Earlier reports indicated that Temuera Morrison, who originated the role of Jango Fett, had been cast as Boba Fett in the new season so it’s not clear what’s happening though Morrison’s role may well just be in flashback. The new season is slated to premiere in October.
