Later this year, “Tomb Raider” game franchise developers Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix will release “Marvel’s Avengers,” a new narrative driven video game based on the celebrated franchise.
However around ten years ago, THQ Studio Australia began development on their own “Avengers” game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC – a title that was killed early in development and never actually released.
Andrew Borman, a Digital Games Curator at the Museum of Play in Rochester, has posted footage on YouTube this week from an early build of the game – a clip which offers a glimpse at what might have been. Borman says the footage was recovered from a harddrive over on ObscureGamers, and is “missing many of the files that may have once been included”.
The game would have seen the team battling Skrulls in a loose adaptation of the “Secret Invasion” storyline. Like the new game, the property is separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
