Vertigo Releasing has unveiled the official trailer for the Johnny Depp-led biopic “Minamata” following its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year.
During his lifetime, Eugene Smith was a photographer for Life magazine with one of his most infamous works being his coverage of the mercury poisoning of the people of Minamata, Japan.
The story will begin with Smith, a former World War II photographer, coming out of a life of reclusiveness when an old friend asks him to travel to Japan to expose this big story.
Hiroyuki Sanada, Minami Hinase, Bill Nighy, Tadanobu Asano and Jun Kunimura co-star. David K. Kessler penned the film which is being directed by Andrew Levitas (“Lullaby”). The film opens in the United Kingdom on February 12th 2021, no U.S. release is yet set.
