Jordan Peele’s new film “Nope” pulled in an estimated $19.3 million on Friday, including a strong $6.4 million in Thursday previews.

As a result, it is now on track for a domestic opening weekend of roughly $44.5 million. That’s behind the $71 million debut of “Us” back in 2019 and slightly behind early projections this past week suggesting an opening in the $50 million range.

Even so, it’s one of the best starts for an original studio film since “Us”, and it boasts the same CinemaScore from audiences as that film – a ‘B’. Critics have praised the film, but at 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s well behind the 98% and 93% of Peele’s first two movies.

The film is Jordan’s longest to date at 131 minutes, but Peele tells Collider this week his assembly cut of the film came in at 225 minutes which he then whittled down. “Nope” is out in North America and will open across the globe in the coming weeks.
