Nolan’s “The Odyssey” Earns $1.5 Million

Christopher Nolan’s ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” has already earned $1.5 million at the box-office, despite the fact the film is still shooting.

As previously reported, tickets for IMAX 70mm showings of the film went on sale less than a day ago, a full year before the film’s release in cinemas on July 17th 2026. It will mark the first commercial feature to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

According to THR, only 25-26 locations were made available with sessions covering only 7pm ones across July 16th Thursday night previews and the July 17th-19th weekend.

95% of tickets were snapped up in the first hour, pulling in a total of $1.5 million in pre-sales despite only the very limited seats available.

16 IMAX U.S. sites were part of the offering, as were IMAX cinemas in Canada, the UK, Australia and the Czech Republic. It marks the first time in history that tickets have gone on sale a year before a film’s opening.

IMAX screens accounted for $190 million, around 20%, of the worldwide box-office haul of Nolan’s last film “Oppenheimer”.

Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Mia Goth star in the mythological epic which released a trailer in cinemas earlier this month, but hasn’t officially dropped it online as yet.
