No Origin Story In “Superman: Legacy”?

Warner Bros. Pictures

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Robert Pattinson’s Batman skipped theirs, and now it looks like David Corenswet’s Superman will also be missing his origin story too in the upcoming “Superman: Legacy” at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Following on the heels of the news about Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan’s casting as Superman and Lois Lane in the new film, Gunn has taken to his new Bluesky social platform, where a fan recently asked him whether he’ll do a homage to the opening of the famed “All-Star Superman” comic.

That sequence shows pretty much the opening section of Richard Donner’s original 1978 film – namely Krypton’s destruction and Kal-El’s pod landing in Kansas.

Whilst Gunn doesn’t confirm that the sequence won’t be shown in Legacy, he says: “I think we’ve seen his origin enough in film at this time!”

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously told media that the film wouldn’t be an origin story and would be set a few years into Superman’s superhero career.

The film follows the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville – he’s a being guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

“Superman: Legacy” is set to begin filming next Spring and will release exclusively in theaters on July 11th 2025.
