Whilst some shows launch with a multiple-season plan, that’s not the case for Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” spin-off “The Mandalorian” it seems.
The series has released two seasons thus far, along with the spin-off “The Book of Boba Fett” which included several episodes that served as a ‘Season 2.5’ for the series and setup plot threads for the upcoming third season.
Speaking with the Inside Total Film podcast (via GamesRadar) in the run-up to the premiere of the new run, series creator Jon Favreau was asked about his thoughts of a potential series finale down the line.
He says he hasn’t planned an ending for the series as yet, and has assured fans that there’s no plans to finish the journey of Din Djarin and Grogu anytime soon:
“I think the beauty of this is that it’s a middle chapter of a much larger story. And though we’ll have resolution over time with these characters, I think that how these characters fit into the larger scope and scale, but it’s not like there’s a finale that we’re building to that I have in mind.
Quite the contrary, I love for these stories to go on and on. And so these characters potentially could be with us for a while, and I really love telling stories in their voice, and I love the way the adventures unfold and I’m looking forward to doing much more.”
Previously actress Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan in the series, revealed in a Variety interview (via Screen Rant that Favreau and co-creator Dave Filoni had seemingly put a number on the seasons they plan to have. She then added “we’ll just have to wait and see if that happens” and indicated they were “constantly expanding this world” which suggests it wasn’t set in stone.
Series leading man Pedro Pascal has previously said he has “no clue” about the show’s ending. As confirmed earlier this week by Favreau, the scripts for the show’s fourth season are already done and will have links to the upcoming series “Star Wars: Ahsoka” and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” which are set in the same time period.
“The Mandalorian” Season 3 is set to premiere on Wednesday, March 1st on the Disney+ service.
