Nine more roles in HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series have been cast with several key characters from the books scoring some interesting names.
On the adult front, former “The IT Crowd” alum Katherine Parkinson is set to play Ron’s mother Molly Weasley. Joining her is Bertie Carvel who will play Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge.
There’s also Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Harry’s legal guardians Petunia and Vernon Dursley, and Johnny Flynn as Draco’s father Lucius Malfoy.
On the kid front, Lox Pratt has been set as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown.
The adult characters are younger than their film counterparts, keeping in line with the show’s commitment to have its characters closer to the ages in the books.
The new talent joins Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrel, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
HBO’s plan is to adapt each of Rowling’s seven novels into a season of television each. Francesca Gardiner is showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod is the director and executive producer.
