Nicolas Cage On Finally Seeing His Superman

Nicolas Cage has finally spoken about his brief cameo as Superman in Andy Muschietti’s “The Flash” film.

The actor appears as a part of the ‘Chronobowl’ sequence in which multiple potential timelines converge, allowing Barry to see multiple different universes.

One of those sees Cage playing Superman with a look somewhat inspired by the leaked costume test photos he did for Tim Burton’s scrapped 1998 film “Superman Lives”. In the scene, he battles a giant spider.

The actual appearance of Cage is only for a few seconds of screentime and looks decidedly strange due to the CG employed. Of his brief screen time, Cage tells USA Today:

“Well, I was glad I didn’t blink. For me, it was the feeling of being actualized. Even that look for that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But as I said, it’s quick.”

Cage also says the work he did prepping for the scrapped “Superman” project partly ended up in 1998’s romantic fantasy film “City of Angels”:

“If you really wanted to know what I was going do with that character, look at my performance in ‘City of Angels.’ I was supposed (to play) Clark Kent after that (in ‘Superman Lives’), and I was already developing this alien otherness playing this angel.

That is a perfect example of the tonality you would’ve gotten for Kal-El and for Clark Kent: Clark would’ve been a little more amusing, but Kal-El (had) the sensitivity and the goodness and the vulnerability and all those feelings that were kind of angelic and also terrifying.”

Cage can now be seen in “Sympathy for the Devil” on PVOD platforms and has multiple films on the way, including “The Retirement Plan,” “Dream Scenario,” “Arcadian” and “Longlegs”.
